Wilderness Style with a Heart
I’ve got a question for ya.
When do you feel the most confident? The most… like ‘yourself’?
Maybe it’s when you’re on the couch in sweats, maybe it’s when you’re leading a board room in heels.
For me, it’s when I’m with Lillie and Ellie in the wilderness.
And by wilderness, I mean literally the middle of nowhere. Like, it’ll take hours before someone finds us… nowhere.
Lillie, Ellie and I started an annual camping and backpacking trip in 2015 after we all graduated college and wanted a way to stay connected.
Even with Facebook and texting, it’s still hard to connect. We made a pact to prioritize our friendships for one week every year for the rest of our lives.
Might seem like a big commitment, but it’s one of the cheapest, and yet funnest trips ever!
And thus began Women Wandering in the Wilderness with Wine.
I don’t even know how we coined it, but it stuck. Because we do exactly that.
Since then, we’ve traveled to Yellowstone, Glacier, Olympic and Rocky Mountain National Park.
Our goal is to visit one national park a year. Although, the girls are taking 2019 off from our national park tour so they can stand by my side as I marry Luke, my fiancé!
I can’t even begin to tell you how immensely FUN it is to not shower, not sleep, hike at least seven hours a day, drink a TON of wine and have late-night talks like we’re in high school all over again.
I could go on and on, but I’ll get to the point of this.
I love camping, but it doesn’t come naturally. I like to do because it teaches me perseverance and grit and patience. All good qualities.
But I’ll be damned if I’m not stylin’ throughout the hardship.
Yeah, okay so my audience might by some fish, a few birds and potentially a moose, but hey, I feel most confident and capable when I love my outfit.
Anyone else out there feel me???
So, how do I go camping in style and sustainably?
First of all, if you’re backpacking, please do your best to leave no trace. Whatever you pack in, you must pack out. Period.
Okay, onto the sustainable fashion…
I’m a very loyal shopper, and a few brands have got me hooked!
You can shop these stores online, but I encourage you to visit your local wilderness stores.
Here are some local wilderness and activewear stores I truly love:
Threads: Footloose & Fancy
Speaking of local… where you travel… whether it’s a national park or freaking Las Vegas, immerse yourself in a local shopping experience. Seek out stores that aren’t chains or big brands.
I scored a bracelet and necklace from Three Blessed Gems in Estes Park. It’s a cute store run by a mom and two daughters, I believe.
I LOVED their products!
